Climate Crisis is worse than both World Wars and the Great Recessions

Over the next few days it is going to get hot. Really hot. Well, maybe around 36°C (96.8°F). Similar to 2019 (38.7), 2018 (35.6), 2015 (36.7), 2006 (36.5), 2003 (38.5), 1990 (37.1), 1976 (35.9), 1957 (35.6), 1932 (36.1), 1923 (35.6), 1911 (36.7) and 1906 (35.6).

Admittedly, there have been a few more 37°C+ since 1990 but the main difference is…the media.

Compare a weather report from a few years ago with a current one.

Everything nowadays is about inducing panic. Red…Danger…Panic…Death!!

Even if there is a climate crisis why is the population constantly being made to worry and feel anxious about one crisis or another? Surely the more responsible thing to do would be to keep the population calm and look for solutions. And if there are no solutions or this is just part of a natural climate cycle, why petrify everyone.

It seems as if we are meant to be constantly fearful. Constantly anxious. It doesn’t really matter what about, just as long as we are afraid of something or other.

The Met Office have issued an amber weather warning - danger to life. Panic

The government have held a COBRA meeting to prepare for a surge in the NHS. Panic

Sir Patrick Vallance, the Chief Scientific Adviser in charge of the pandemic warned the world is about to be plunged into an even deeper crisis than it was during the Covid pandemic - because of climate change. He said “new technologies will not reduce emissions enough to halt the effects of climate change and we must consider significant lifestyle changes too.”

Donnachadh McCarthy, climate columnist for the Independent went on TV saying holidaymakers are “criminals” and that “the climate crisis is worse than both World Wars and the Great Recessions - if we don’t stop flying the world’s poorest will die”.

The thing is, Donnachadh, if you take away energy from the world’s poorest, the world’s poorest will die.

Nobody can confidently predict the future when it comes to the climate. They can’t even accurately predict the weather in a few weeks. But one thing that can be predicted is what Net Zero means for you.
